Luc Peire

1916 (Bruges, Belgium) – 1994 (Paris, France)

Luc Peire was a Belgian painter with international fame. Peire received his education at the Art Academy in Bruges, the HISL in Ghent and the NHISK in Antwerp. His first work was under the influence of Constant Permeke. After the Second World War his work evolved into a constructive-abstract art in which verticalism dominated. From 1952 to 1955 he stayed in the Belgian Congo. On his return, his form language had become purely abstract. In 1967 he realized the installations Environnement I, in 1968 Environnement II (Ambiente Mexico 68) and in 1973 Environnement III (Auckland, New Zealand).
