Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery is pleased to present Albert Rubens (Tielt, °1944) during the Antwerp Art Weekend.
The art critic Jaak Fontier called Rubens the antipode of lyricism. Any form of representation is eliminated and only lines and planes without any form of subject remain. The serial aspect of his oeuvre and the thinking that precedes it incline Rubens’s efforts to conceptual art and to the ideas of François Morellet, with whom Rubens maintained a friendship. Together with Vasarelly and Le Parc, Rubens founded the group GRAV (Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel). Albert Rubens’ art is a thoughtful universe of purely geometric experiences.
