Daems van Remoortere consider a building and nightfall to be another viewpoint on a bigger picture. Buildings, they say, are a human construction designed to retreat from the greater whole. The light that enters buildings through windows and doors provides the connection to others and the outside world. Light allows us to perceive the different and others and feel connected.
Light is a recurring element in Daems van Remoortere’s sculptures, installations and interventions in public space.
It fascinates them how light is present everywhere and yet seems elusive, is an indication of time, how it penetrates somewhere, reveals new perspectives, bends, is necessary to see or when it is absent sometimes brings us into another atmosphere or state of mind and makes us think.
