2024 is not only the year in which we celebrate the 10th edition of the Antwerp Art Weekend, it is also the year in which we reflect on the passing of the important constructivist Guy Vandenbranden (1926-2014), who passed away exactly ten years ago. As one of Belgium’s most important post-war artists, Vandenbranden is internationally appreciated for his rich artistic career, in which he consistently adhered to geometric abstraction from 1951 until his death in 2014. Vandenbranden had connections with the Zero and Optical Art movements and was friends with Piero Manzoni, Jef Verheyen and François Morellet, among others. With this retrospective exhibition, Callewaert Vanlangendonck aims to highlight the artist’s extraordinary oeuvre. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures and works on paper, from the early 1950s to 2014.
