With the exhibition ‘Informal Art in Belgium’, Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery delves into the world of lyrical abstraction, Cobra, action painting, tachism and matter painting. The term ‘Art informel’ was launched in 1952 by French art critic Michel Tapié in his book ‘Un Art Autre’. In this book , the author describes art forms based on informal processes, which are often gestural. The exhibition at Callewaert Vanlangendonck shows how this movement was dominant during the 1950s and resonated with several Belgian artists who gave it a very personal interpretation.
