Jef Verheyen made great efforts to include Belgian like-minded artists in his international avant-garde network. For instance, he arranged for Vandenbranden, Van Hoeydonck and Verstockt to exhibit in Piero Manzoni’s house gallery, Galleria Pater in Milan. He also put members of The New Flemish School in touch with Italian avant-garde galleries. This exhibition at Callewaert Vanlangendonck pays tribute to Jef Verheyen as an innovator and promoter of post-war European art and aims to tell the story of the “Belgians in Italy” as a modest but important complement to the Jef Verheyen exhibition, running at KMSKA.
